Unlike regular LED strip lights, these LED strips operate at mains voltage and don't require a low voltage transformer. This is beneficial when doing longer lengths of LED strip as problems such as colour fade, overloading the power adapter, etc are eliminated. Although they are mains voltage, they are perfectly safe as they have a thick IP65 coating around the strip / LEDs.
